The Chews Lane apartments are within the 12-storey tower that straddles the two podia at 50 and 60 Victoria Street. Meticulous attention to detail went into the planning and construction of each of the 97 apartments, with floor to ceiling windows and balconies maximising views and the sunlight.
Access to the apartments is via the 200-bay residents’ car park, or the pedestrian-only Chews Lane. Retail stores and food and beverage outlets are on the doorstep, and it’s a short walk to the main Willis Street thoroughfare or the library, City Gallery and waterfront.
One construction challenge was to blend the different requirements of apartments, offices, car parks and retail spaces. The steel-framed apartment tower provides resistance to wind and seismic loads while maintaining maximum openings for the spectacular views.
Apartment residents can look down to the landscaped outdoor area on top of 60 Victoria Street, across the civic centre to the harbour and hills beyond.
